Remington Park Releases 2017 Stakes Schedule

The track's 50-date Quarter Horse meet opens March 10.

Edited press release

Remington Park in Oklahoma City has released its stakes schedule for its 2017 spring meet.

The 2017 Remington Park racing year will begin with the American Quarter Horse Season on March 10. The stakes schedule of 40 races is worth more than $5.6 million, led by the Grade 1, $1,000,000 Heritage Place Futurity on June 3, closing night of the 50-date meet.

The Heritage Place Futurity headlines the closing-night program, which will consist of eight stakes worth a total of $2.125 million, including the Grade 1, $250,000 Remington Park Championship; the Grade 2, $350,000 Heritage Place Derby; the Grade 2, $100,000 Junos Request Stakes; and Grade 2, $50,000 Remington Park Distance Championship.

While the Heritage Place Futurity is the richest on the futurity schedule at Remington Park, the other futurities do not lack in prestige. The historic Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Futurity will be contested for the 76th time on March 25. The oldest futurity in the sport, the Oklahoma Futurity tops a program on March 25 that includes the Grade 3, $275,000 Oklahoma Derby and the Grade 1, $100,000 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity.

The restricted Grade 2, $950,000 Remington Park Futurity headlines the April 22 program with stakes worth more than $1.3 million and also includes the restricted Grade 3, $325,000 Remington Park Derby and the Grade 2, $50,000 Bob Moore Memorial. Both the Remington Park Futurity and Derby are restricted to eligible Oklahoma-breds.

The Grade 1, $100,000 Leo Stakes on April 1 is the lone remaining Grade 1 event on the schedule for Quarter Horses. Other big-money events for older Quarter Horses include the restricted Grade 1, $100,000 Sooner State Stakes (Oklahoma-breds) on May 6 and the Grade 2, $100,000 Bank of America Oklahoma Championship. The Oklahoma Championship leads the AQHA Challenge Championship card on May 14 and includes the Grade 3, $50,000 Oklahoma Distance Challenge and the Grade 3, $40,000 Merial Oklahoma Distaff Challenge.

Remington Park will present a special holiday program on Memorial Day Monday, May 29, that will feature three Quarter Horse stakes restricted to Oklahoma-breds.
