NM Racing Commission Schedules Special Meeting for Feb. 17

The meeting will deal with the EHV-1 outbreak at Sunland Park

The New Mexico Racing Commission has called a special meeting to discuss the EHV-1 outbreak at Sunland Park Racetrack.

The New Mexico Racing Commission has called a special meeting for February 17 to discuss the Equine Herpes Virus outbreak at Sunland Park.

The meeting will be held at the commission’s headquarters in Albuquerque, beginning at 1:30 p.m. (MST).
According to the New Mexico Livestock Board, there have been 62 confirmed cases as of Thursday. Sunland Park has not held live racing since January 22.

The agenda for the special meeting, to be held in Albuquerque, N.M., calls for discussion of the short term and long term impacts of the equine herpesvirus outbreak at Sunland Park and Frontera Training Center. The commission also plans to develop a "strategic plan.”
