NM Racing Commission Seeking Equine Medical Director

Qualified candidates for the new position must be licensed veterinarians in New Mexico.

The New Mexico Racing Commission is seeking to fill the newly created post of Equine Medical Director.

The New Mexico Racing Commission is accepting applications for a New Mexico-licensed veterinarian to work as the the commission’s Equine Medical Director.

Here is a brief job description:

The Equine Medical Director will report to the Executive Director and other designees as the NMRC identifies.

The Equine Medical Director shall consult with the NMRC investigators and other designees as determined on regulatory actions undertaken by the NMRC.

The Equine Medical Director will advise the NMRC on security measures to ensure compliance to NMRC regulations and the State of New Mexico laws governing medication, drugs, and other veterinary related practices under the NMRC’s jurisdiction.

The Equine Medical Director shall have authority and jurisdiction to supervise the practicing licensed veterinarians and other licensees involved in veterinary care and shall enforce the New Mexico Racing Commission’s rules and regulations relating to veterinary practices.

The Equine Medical Director shall monitor the drug testing program for the NMRC for sample analysis or related activities. The Equine Medical Director shall advise the NMRC on all aspects of the drug testing program.

The Equine Medical Director shall evaluate and recommend to the NMRC the types of tests and drugs that need to be tested from the contract laboratory.

The Equine Medical Director will act on directives and instructions, as may be issued from time to time by the Executive Director.
