Jesse Ullery will join the Keeneland Sales Department as sales associate.
Ullery, who has served as a Pedigree Announcer at the Keeneland sales since January 2014, was the director of racing at Fair Meadows and Will Rogers Downs in Oklahoma.
“We are pleased to have Jesse join the Keeneland Sales team,” said Keeneland president and chief executive officer Bill Thomason said. “His longtime involvement in equine auctions combined with his racing experience make him uniquely qualified for this position.”
Ullery first participated in horse auctions while working during the summers at a monthly sale in Montana managed by his father, Keith Ullery. He later gained experience at Thoroughbred sales conducted by the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society in Ontario, Heritage Place in Oklahoma City and the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company.
Born in Montana and raised in Phoenix, Ullery was introduced to racing by his grandfather Burton Farley, a trainer in the Northwest and at Turf Paradise, and by his aunt Coralee Farley, a longtime racing official. His mother, LeAnn Hickman, works for Coady Photography and is currently assisting during the Thoroughbred meet at Sam Houston Race Park.
Ullery, the PA announcer for his high school sports teams, at 19 became the track announcer at Fair Meadows in Tulsa in 2007. He was named to the same post at Will Rogers and the now-defunct Blue Ribbon Downs in Oklahoma the following year.
Ullery and his wife, Lauren, will relocate to Lexington. He will begin his new duties February 22 and will continue to serve as an announcer during the Keeneland sales.
