A proposal to allow parimutuel wagering on horse racing in Georgia will go to the full state Senate.

Legislation to legalize parimutuel betting on horse racing in Georgia has cleared its first hurdle in the General Assembly.

On Wednesday, the state Senate’s Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee approved a constitutional amendment allowing Georgians to vote on horse racing this fall, the first step toward sending the proposal to the full Senate.
