Grants Pass Downs Opening Attracts Large Crowd

Opening-day attendance was largest in four years.


Grants Pass Downs opened its nine-day meet on Saturday.

Saturday's opening-day program at Grants Pass Downs drew 2,875 fans, the largest opening-day attendance since the Southern Oregon Horse Racing Association took over operation of the meet four years ago.

Handle for the eight-race program, which included three American Quarter Horse races, reached $40,894, also the largest in four years.

The Grants Pass Downs meet runs weekends and holidays through July 10.
