The extension means that Sunland's meet will conclude on May 3. The track was forced to suspend racing on January 23 due to an outbreak of the equine herpesvirus. Live racing resumed on February 26.

Also, the commission has called a special meeting for Monday, March 28, to consider Sunland Park's request to increase overnight purses 15 percent starting March 29 and continuing through closing day. The track will also ask permission to retroactively increase purses purses 15 percent from December 18-March 27.

The March 28 special meeting will be held at the commission's headquarters in Albuquerque, beginning at 1 p.m. (MDT). Click here for the tenative meeting agenda.
