Portland Meadows Opens 2016-17 Season on Sunday

The track's 70th anniversary meet runs through January 3.

Portland Meadows will open its 70th anniversary season with a 10-race program on Sunday. Post time for the first race is set for 12 p.m. (PDT).

Sunday's opening card includes a 300-yard, $4,100 allowance feature for Quarter Horses. A full field of 10 has been entered, topped by morning-line favorite L Bar D Dixon Delite. A 3-year-old daughter of Inseperable trained by Hector Magallanes for owner Hernan Torres, the filly won last year's $25,000 Grants Pass Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass Downs.

Portland Meadows' Quarter Horse stakes schedule is topped by a pair of futurities, the 350-yard, $28,000-est. Far West Futurity on October 24; the 400-yard, $24,000-est. Portland Meadows Fall Derby on November 20; and the 400-yard, $27,000-est. Baxter Andruss Futurity (R) for Oregon-breds on December 18.

The track will also host the 440-yard, $20,000-added AQHA Portland Meadows Bonus Challenge Stakes on December 26. Click here for the track's complete stakes book.

Parking and admission are free during the 37-day season, which runs through January 3.
