Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, Louisiana, ended its 46-night American Quarter Horse season on Tuesday, as Everardo Rodriguez won his first-ever meet riding championship.

Rodriguez rode the winners of 34 races, including six during the last six nights of the meet. Damian Martinez finished second with 29 wins, one more than third-place David Alvarez, who was Evangeline's leading rider in 2015 and '16.

Kenny Roberts Sr. won 30 races from 129 starters to top all trainers. Roberts' starters earned $940,231 in purse money and included Richard and Janelle Simon's You Drive I Fly, the winner of Louisiana's richest horse race, the 400-yard, $1-million Louisiana Million Futurity (RG1) on December 16. Orlando Orozco was second in the trainer standings with 19 wins.

Jose O. Barron and Robert Touchet tied for leading owner honors with seven wins each.
