Edited press release

Los Alamitos opens its 2018 season with an eight-race program on Friday.

Los Alamitos opens its yearlong 2018 season with an eight-race program on Friday. Post time for the first race is set for 7 p.m. (PST).

The racing season will continue on Saturday, but no racing will be conducted on Sunday, New Year's Eve. Los Alamitos' regular Friday-through-Sunday live racing schedule will resume on Friday, January 5.

Los Alamitos' popular early and late Pick-4 wagers will once again highlight the track's wagering menu. Friday's late Pick-4 will have 29 horses competing as part of its four-race sequence. A wide open field of nine juveniles will take part in the eighth race, the fourth leg of the late Pick-4.

Friday's feature race, a 350-yard, $11,325 non-winners-of-two allowance dash, has drawn six 2-year-olds, topped by  Ron Hartley's Black Fryday, the 9-5 morning-line favorite. A California-bred son of Favorite Cartel and a finalist in the November 5 Golden State Million Futurity (G1), the gelding will be shortening in distance off of his fifth-place finish in a 400-yard Los Alamitos Two-Million Futurity (G1) trial on November 26.

Los Alamitos' 2018 meet runs thorough December 16. For more information on the meet, visit the track's website.
