Jessies First Down jumped from No. 6 to No. 1 in the season's final AQHA national poll for older horses following his stirring victory in the Championship at Sunland Park (G1). It marked his eighth victory in an 11-start campaign that spanned from January 3 through his December 31 season finale. A hallmark of consistency, he finished first or second in all 11 outings this year and closed with a trio of consecutive Grade 1 stakes finals victories. The last score was enough to jump All American Derby (G1) winner EC Jet One as well as Champion of Champions (G1) one-two finishers Zoomin For Spuds and Heza Dasha Fire.

As for the 2-year-olds, All American Futurity (G1) winner Imperial Eagle closes the season as the unanimous No. 1 in the voting, garnering all 110 possible poll points. He capped his 6-for-9 season on New Year's Eve by taking the Sunland Park Winter Juvenile Championship. The California-bred won three major stakes finals in 2016 and earned more than $1.7 million. Worth Doing, hero of the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1) and fellow millionaire earner on the season, easily held the second spot in the juvenile poll to close the season.
