New Mexico-Bred Champions Honored

Nine Quarter Horses were honored in Albuquerque on Thursday.

The New Mexico Horse Breeders’ Association honored its 2016 Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse champions during its Zia Awards Banquet at the Marriott Uptown Hotel in Albuquerque on Thursday.

A total of 18 awards were presented. The following nine awards honored New Mexico’s top Quarter Horses:

OLDER MARE: Astica (Jesse James Jr-Alice K White by First Down Dash); owner and breeder, MJ Farms
OLDER HORSE/GELDING: Klassic Strawfly (Genuine Strawfly-A Classic Song by A Classic Dash); owner, Yaneth Cabrera; breeders, Leonard P. Blach and Ronald Stephens
3-YEAR-OLD FILLY: Princess Jesse (Jesse James Jr-Total Miracle by Dean Miracle); owner and breeder, Vance E. Mikkelson
3-YEAR-OLD COLT/GELDING: Play Misty Foreme (Jesse James Jr-Arbor Mist by Blushing Bug); owner, Robert D. Smith; breeder, MJ Farms
2-YEAR-OLD FILLY: Running Dragon (Zulu Dragon-Banking Lane by Devon Lane [TB]); owner and breeder, By By JJ LLC
2-YEAR-OLD COLT/GELDING: Magnifico Dragon (Zulu Dragon-Cassies Mag by Magnificence); owner, Daniel Balderrama; breeder, Heriberto Moreno)
BROODMARE OF THE YEAR: Banking Lane (Devon Lane [TB]-Banking Disco by Strait To The Bank); owner, By By JJ LLC
