Retama Park Meet Opens Friday

Retama Park opens its 20-night American Quarter Horse season on Friday.

Retama Park near San Antonio opens its 20-night American Quarter Horse meet with a 10-race program on Friday. Post time for the first race is set for 6:45 p.m. (CDT).

Retama's opening-night card is headlined by the 350-yard, $20,000 Selma Stakes, which has drawn a full field of 10 fillies and mares. The Selma is one of 20 Quarter Horse stakes on the schedule, which is once again topped by the 350-yard, $450,000-est. Texas Quarter Horse Associaton Sale Futurity (RG2) for state-bred 2-year-olds, which will be run on July 29.

Another of the track's prominent stakes, the 400-yard, $175,000-est. Retama Park Derby, will also be run on July 29. In addition, Retama will also play host to two Bank of America Racing Challenge regional stakes -- the 350-yard, $35,000-added John Deere Retama Juvenile Challenge and 400-yard, $25,000-added Adequan Retama Derby Challenge -- both of which will be run on closing night, August 12.
