Twelve Quarter Horse stakes are scheduled during the meet, which opens May 19.

Edited press release

Arapahoe Park has release its stakes schedule for its 2017 meet, which opens in May.

Arapahoe Park has released its stakes schedule for its 39-day season, which opens May 19.

Arapahoe Park will offer 12 Quarter Horse stakes, topped by the 400-yard, $100,000 Arapahoe Park Futurity on closing day, August 13. The fields for this race and the 400-yard Arapahoe Park Derby, will be determined by a new process involving qualifying races held weekly throughout the season, similar to how Los Alamitos determines the field for its Grade 1 Champion of Champions. Two of those qualifying races will be the Cherry Creek Futurity (R) and Lucille Rowe Derby (R) for Colorado-breds on July 15.

Arapahoe Park has also introduced new stakes races for Quarter Horses in 2017: the 350-yard, $15,000 Evergreen Stakes on June 18, the 400-yard, $15,000 Come Six Stakes on July 8, and the 300-yard, $22,500 Arapahoe Park Sprint Bonus Challenge on closing day.

“We’ve always appreciated the opportunity to be innovative at Arapahoe Park, and welook forward to trying new ideas for improving horse racing in Colorado,” Arapahoe Park executive director Bruce Seymore said.

There will be no Arabian racing at Arapahoe Park this year.
