Louisiana Purse Bill Pulled

The bill would have cut the state's purses and breeders' awards in half.

A bill that would have halved purses and breeders awards in Louisiana has been pulled.

A Louisiana lawmaker has withdrawn a bill that would have diverted $36 million in racing purse and breeders' award revenue to a scholarship program.

Jay Morris, a Republican representing a district in the northern part of the state, acknowledged that the legislation would not pass out of a committee. According to a report in Daily Racing Form, Morris cited the large number of phone calls that racing industry supporters had made to committee members last weekend.
