Portland Meadows Gears Up for 2017-18 Season Opener

The track begins its 37-day meet on October 2.

Portland Meadows will begin its 2017-18 Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse meet on October 2.

For the most part, Portland Meadows will offer live racing on a Monday-Tuesday schedule. In addition, the track will race live on the following five Sundays: October 22, November 26, December 17, January 7, and January 28. Post time every race day will be set for 12 noon (Pacific).

Jockeys expected to return for Portland Meadows' 2017-18 season include the husband and wife duo of Jake Samuels and Kassie Guglielmino, and Luis Gonzales. Samuels and Gonzales were among the track's leading Quarter Horse jockeys last season.

Trainers expected to return include Roddina Barrett and John Harris.

Highlights of Portland Meadows' Quarter Horse stakes schedule include the 440-yard, $20,000-est. Portland Meadows Bonus Challenge Stakes on October 22, the 350-yard, $15,000-added Far West Futurity on October 30, and the 400-yard, $15,000-added Baxter Andruss Futurity on December 17.

Admission and parking are always free at Portland Meadows, which opened in 1946 and is celebrating its 71st anniversary this year.
