Jack Benton Wilson, Sr., 81, passed this life on Sunday, September 24, 2017, in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He was born June 19, 1936, in Osceola, Missouri, to Olin Ray Wilson and Helen Herndon Wilson. He leaves to mourn his passing, wife of 57 years, Bonnie L. Cumpton Wilson. They were married on May 28, 1960. He is also survived by his 5 children Kay Wilson of Missouri, Jack Jr. of Kansas, Ricky Wilson of Illinois, Randy Wilson, and Brian Wilson both of Sallisaw; 14s grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and along with host of loving family and friends.

In 1955, he left school to enlist in the U.S. Army, serving on the front line in the Korean War. He worked as a metal finisher, and for the Gas Service Co. for 25 years. In October 1983, he moved to Oklahoma for his passion to “Race.” For over 50 years, he loved breeding, raising, and training horses. Wilson saddled more than 2,860 American Quarter Horse race starters that earned more than $1.7 million.

Among his trainees were Grade 1 winner Rock N Rona and Grade 2 winner CMB Josephine, as well as stakes winners Pals By And By, Pals Silver Top, Six Moon Heart, Pals Pure D Cross, Warrented Cash and Flowin Ryon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings.

 Funeral services for Jack B. Wilson, Sr. will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at 2:00 pm in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel, Forever Memories Funeral Services, Sallisaw. Rev. Jerry Green will officiate. Interment will be in the Akins Cemetery. Visitation for Jack will be held Wednesday from 5-8 pm in the Sequoyah Memorial Chapel.
