Ruidoso bans trainer after four-win day in All American Derby trials.

Trainer Josue Ponce was banned from Ruidoso Downs, according to the Paulick Report.

On Sunday, August 19, the trainer sent out four runners in trial races for the All American Derby (G1), and reportedly two of them were vanned off the racetrack and the other two appeared to be “in distress.”  Three of the four qualified to the final of the All American Derby (G1), including Dashnunder Afullmoon, Fast Prize Rumor and PYC Fun N Fancy.

“Ruidoso Downs is taking the necessary actions to ensure the humane treatment of horses and to protect riders competing at its track,” said Janet VanBebber, AQHA chief racing officer. “While the majority of racing participants abide by the rules and hold their horses in the highest regard, the few who don’t, endanger not only their horses, but also the integrity of racing. We applaud the swift action taken by track ownership to effect change regarding those who may compromise the welfare of the athletes entrusted in their care.”
