AQHA Racing Polls

MM Fourinthemorning secures his spot in freshman poll.

MM Fourinthemorning secures his spot in freshman poll.

MM Fourinthemorning went into last week’s All American Futurity (G1) trials at Ruidoso Downs as the sport’s top-ranked 2-year-old, and the gelded son of Mr Jess Perry backed up that status by winning his heat and qualifying to the $3-million final on Labor Day. The Mark and Annette McCloy homebred, who is trained by Blane Wood, has been in the No. 1 spot in the poll since taking last month’s $1-million Rainbow Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs. The New Mexico-bred figures to be the favorite in American Quarter Horse racing’s richest race on September 3.

Also in the 2-year-old poll, Lynnder 16 moved up two spots into a tie for No. 5 after joining MM Fourinthemorning by qualifying to the All American Futurity. Several other qualifiers also received votes this week, although none cracked the top 10.

There were no major changes in the older horse poll as Jessies First Down, the two-time defending world champion, remained at the top for another week. No. 5-ranked Jess Move You saw action over the weekend with a trial win that qualified him for the All American Derby (G1) to be run September 2. Also, Jesstacartel, winner of Sunday’s Golden State Derby (G2) at Los Alamitos, debuted in the poll at No. 10.

The integrity of American Quarter Horse racing is of utmost importance to AQHA. As part of a multifaceted effort to ensure integrity, AQHA has instituted a policy concerning awards and publicity that makes horses with racing medication positives and horses trained by trainers with racing medication positives ineligible for the AQHA Racing National Polls.
