Los Alamitos-based jockey Oscar Peinado is scheduled to have surgery on Thursday, August 2, at Long Beach Memorial Hospital.

Peinado has full movement and is in good spirits. According to reports, he sustained fractured vertebras in his neck and back when his mount, Unusual Kiddy, fell during the running of the eighth race at Los Alamitos on Sunday. Peinado's agent, April Ward, said that the rider is expected to be sidelined for approximately eight months.

With 28 wins, Peinado is the fifth leading Quarter Horse rider at the current Los Alamitos meet.
