Advocates hoping to legalize historical racing machines in Idaho appears to have collected enough signatures to qualify an initiative for the November ballot.

Idaho election officials say that a proposal to legalize historical racing machines in the state appears to have secured enough verifiable signatures to qualify for the November ballot.

The betting machines, also known as "Instant Racing," were legal between 2013-15, but state lawmakers banned them after deciding they resembled illegal slot machines. The repeal caused outcries from Treasure Valley Racing, which conducted live racing at Les Bois Park near Boise, and other historical racing advocates, arguing the terminals are necessary to keep live racing sustainable in the state.
