RACE RECORD: Breaking his maiden in style, Apocalyptical Jess romped to the fastest qualifying time on the first day of All American trials, posting a :21.349 time and a 3¼-length victory distance.

"I was excited when he drew the one hole," said qualifying jockey Ricky Ramirez. "I knew that would be to his benefit. But the way he ran today, he could've won from anywhere."

All of the five finalists from Friday’s 16 trials raced in the first five heats, which were all contested with a reported tail wind.

Apocalyptical Jess was eighth in his Ruidoso Futurity (G1) trial and then improved to a second-place finish in his Rainbow Futurity (G1) trial.

BREEDER: Apocalyptical Jess was bred by Danny Joe Miller, who is based in Farmington, Missouri, and is the father-in-law of the horse's owner.

Since 1992, Miller has bred 120 winners that have earned more than $1.5 million. They include in their ranks the Grade 1 winners Varsity Girl and Takin On Spoon Man, as well as stakes winners Fire Thorn, CC Seis and Spoon Crest.

OWNER: San Jose, California, based owner Bill T. Robbins has since 1991 started 48 horses, with $105,897 in earnings. A 10-year breeder, he bred stakes winner Mals First Down ($76,130).

TRAINER: Blane Wood qualified three finalists to the All American Futurity, as well as one to the Derby.

The veteran trainer has since 1975 trained the earners of more than $17 million, including four Rainbow Futurity winners – the most recent being MM Fourinthemorning, who also qualified to the All American.

He seeks his first All American Futurity victory, although his horses have lit the board on multiple occasions. His father, Leo, won the 1978 All American Futurity with Pie In The Sky.

QUALIFYING JOCKEY: Champion jockey Ricky Ramirez knows how to be a winner on and off the track. The recent rider of $1 million Rainbow Futurity (G1) winner MM Fourinthemorning, who also qualified to the All American Futurity (G1), Ramirez was also just named this year’s Sam Thompson Memorial Jockey Award winner, which is an award given to a jockey by his or her peers based on personal character on and off the racetrack.

He has ridden more than 1,100 winners and the earners of more than $29.7 million, but is still seeking his first All American Futurity victory. In 2011, he was second on Jess Send Me; in 2014, he rode Sam Crow to a third-place finish in the race.

PEDIGREE: Apocalyptical Jess is one of two qualifiers sired by champion and leading sire Apollitical Jess. The 11-year-old son of Mr Jess Perry earned more than $1.3 million on the racetrack and has to date sired the earners of more than $20 million. The stallion stands at James Ranch in Wayne, Oklahoma.

Apocalyptical Jess is out of Miller’s homebred Cassandra Crest, a daughter of Holland Ease out of the Cameronian mare Diamond For Leigh, who ran second in the 2003 Retama Park Futurity (G1).

She is also the dam of stakes winner CC Seis (by Tres Seis, $87,196) and stakes-placed runner CC Kachina Eagle (by One Famous Eagle, $128,215).
