RACE RECORD: In an eventful qualfiying story, Moonflash Numbers crossed the wire on top in the 14th of 16 trials on Day 2 with a time good enough for the fifth-fastest qualifying spot, but was disqualified for interference.

A subsequent New Mexico Racing Commission hearing reversed that disqualification, placing the horse in the final.

His trial win was his first in four starts. He was a disqualified fifth in his debut, a West Texas Futurity trial, and then was second in both his Ruidoso and Rainbow trials.

BREEDER: Donna and Jon McPherson’s Grant Farms LLC remarkably has three qualifiers in the race, and are the only breeder to get more than one finalist in the All American Futurity. They also bred Pilot Points Moon, whom they still own, and Badhabit Jess.

The Pineville, Louisiana, breeder has since 2012 bred the earners of more than $4.3 million, including graded stakes winners Big Dashing Perry ($350,022), Paint My Pilot ($377,577) and Long Wagon Ho ($154,264).

OWNER: Moonflash Numbers is the only horse Jose Soto owns. Soto hails from Horizon City, Texas, and paid $30,000 for the horse at the 2017 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.

TRAINER: Salvador Soto has since 2004 trained 159 winners and the earners of more than $3.2 million.

His top horses include Cowboys N Injuns, Jessgottahaveit, Sensational Dash and Hez Our Rock.

QUALIFYING JOCKEY: Sergio Becerra Jr. has ridden the earners of more than $3.8 million, including stakes winners Roman Soldier CD and Play Misty Forme.

In 2014, he finished second in the All American Futurity aboard Mad About The Moon.

PEDIGREE: First Moonflash is a 13-year-old son of the late champion First To Flash. A champion and 440-yard world record setter, he earned $969,828 on the racetrack. From six crops to race, he has sired the earners of more than $12 million, including 2013 All American Futurity (G1) winner Handsome Jack Flash and 2013 All American Derby (G1) winner Too Flash For You.

He is also the sire of All American qualifiers Pilot Points Moon and No Mires A La Luna. First Moonflash stands at Double L L Farm at Bosque, New Mexico.

Dam Strength In Numbers was a Grade 1 winner and a five-time stakes winner who earned $267,746 in her racing career.

The Double Bar S Ranch-bred daughter of Strawfly Special now has 22 foals, of which 12 have started and nine returned winners. Her starters have earned more than $346,000 and include stakes winners Mr Perry Strong (by Mr Jess Perry, $68,571) and Lonely In Front BR (by Favorite Cartel, $34,771) and stakes-placed runner Piloto Strong (by Mr Piloto, $97,403).

She has a yearling by One Famous Eagle named Famous Numbers Fly.
