A Tres Of Paint Tops Night 1 of RP Futurity Trials

Tres Seis filly posts the fastest time with the first career victory for trainer Duke Shults.

News Release

Friday night racing at Remington Park featured the first 11 of an eventual 22 trials to determine qualifiers for the $827,000 Remington Park Futurity (RG2) on April 18. A Tres Of Paint posted the fastest time of the five Oklahoma-bred 2-year-olds that moved out of the initial evening of heats.

Owned by Sara Morgan of Edmond, Okla., A Tres Of Paint provided first-year trainer Duke Shults his first career training victory. Jockey Jesus Salazar was up for the win in the fifth trial of the night, handling 330 yards in :16.615 seconds over a fast track.

A Tres Of Paint was making her second start of the season after finishing fifth in a maiden special weight event on March 13. Bred in Oklahoma by the Mixer Ranch, A Tres Of Paint is a filly by Tres Seis from the PYC Paint Your Wagon mare First Painted Sign.

The five finalists from Friday night heading to the Remington Park Futurity on April 18, with their time and trial, are: A Tres Of Paint, :16.615 (trial 5); Send Me Good Candy, :16.624 (trial 11); Wyld Bleu Yonder, :16.626 (trial 2); Barbie Cartel, :16.637 (trial 2) and Celtic Emblem, :16.682 (trial 1).

Jockey Joe Badilla posted three victories Friday. The hat trick came aboard Wyld Bleu Yonder ($21 to win) in race three, Arolla The Dice ($7.80) in race seven and SRC Gold ($3) in race 11. The riding triple gives Badilla 13 wins and places him second in the standings behind leading jockey G.R. Carter Jr., who has 19 wins. Badilla, a four-time Champion Jockey, is in his first full season of racing at Remington Park.

Saturday night racing will include the next 11 trials for the $827,000 Remington Park Futurity, with the five fastest 2-year-olds joining the five from Friday night in the final.

The first race Saturday night is at 6 p.m. Central.
