A sharp break from post 8 helped Exquisite Stride score his first stakes win in the $145,100 Evangeline Downs Derby on Saturday.

Exquisite Stride made his 400-yard trip in :19.700 under jockey Joe Badilla Jr., and his winning margin was a neck from Zoomin Baby. Michael Taylor trained the Carters Cartel colt for owner D & S Racing LLC.

Exquisite Stride was bred in California by John Andreini. The fifth-fastest qualifier, he was coming off of a wire-to-wire, three-quarter length victory in his Evangeline Downs Derby trial on November 28.

All told, Exquisite Stride has won four of seven starts and has earned $187,630, of which $109,400 was banked during a 2-year-old campaign in which he was a finalist in the 440-yard, $2.6-million All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

Cobalt Creek ran third and was followed by Happie Happie Happie, Iconic Jess, McM Storm Catcher, NCC Game On, Executive Successor, and WW Showtime.
