A sharp break from post 6 helped reigning world champion JRC Callas First extended his win streak to four in Wednesday’s 440-yard, $150,000 Zia Park Championship (G1) at Zia Park.

Under jockey Damian Martinez, who rode JRC Callas First for owners Brian and Dana Stroud, the 5-year-old Winners Award gelding made his quarter-mile trip in :21.738. The gelding led at every call while defeating Mad About The Moon by one length.

JRC Callas First was making his first start since September 27, when he scored a head victory as the 2-1 favorite in the inaugural running of the 440-yard, $200,000 Downs at Albuquerque Fall Championship. The gelding, who was bred in Texas by J.R. Cass, has won 15 of 24 starts, including four of six this season. All four of his 2015 victories have come against stakes company.

The $90,000 winner’s share of the Zia Park Championship purse pushed JRC Callas First’s bankroll to $479,931, of which $468,547 has been earned since the beginning of his 2014 world championship season. The gelding was sent to post as the 5-2 second choice and returned a $7 win mutuel.

Dashin For A Prize, the 2-1 favorite, finished third, 1 1/2 lengths behind JRC Callas First. Major Moonflash, GRC Justplainazoom, Alis Jumpn, Pure D Spit, Eagle On The Fly, Jesscuzican, and Quick Dynasty completed the order of finish.
