Fastest Qualifier Heza Louisiana Dash Wins LQHBA Derby
The Heza Fast Dash gelding earned his first stakes win at Evangeline Downs on Saturday.

Fresh off of scoring his 3,000th career win on Friday, Gilbert Ortiz rode fastest qualifier Heza Louisiana Dash to a three-quarter length victory in Saturday’s 400-yard, $267,171 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association Derby (R) at Evangeline Downs.
Heza Louisiana Dash stopped the timer in :19.893 while posting a 91 speed index against a 5-mph head wind. Kenneth Roberts Sr. prepped the Heza Fast Dash gelding for owner TM Ranch, which acquired Heza Louisiana Dash for $52,000 at the 2013 LQHBA Yearling Sale.
Heza Louisiana Dash was bred by Jumonville Farms and Burnett Ranch. The gelding was coming off of a 2 1/4-length victory in the second of three trials on November 11.
Raced exclusively in Louisiana, Heza Louisiana Dash has won six of 12 starts, and the $118,891 winner’s share of the purse from his first stakes score increased his bankroll to $212,115, of which $165,044 has been pocketed this season.
Heza Louisiana Dash was coming off of a Fair Grounds summer campaign in which he ran second, a neck behind Jes A Fast Dasher, in the 350-yard, $50,000 Treme Derby (R) for state-bred 3-year-olds.
Louisiana Jambalaya, Icanonlyemagine, Dashacrossyourmind, Jes A Fast Dasher, Louisiana Sixshooter, Little Blue Dove, B And G Fast Dash, Game Hi, and Shes A Fast Dash completed the order of finish.
