Docs Best Card, a Corona Cartel colt owned and trained by Jaime Gomez, is the fastest qualifier to the November 1, $1,049,350 Golden State Million Futurity (G1) at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Oscar Peinado in the seventh of 10 trials on Sunday, Docs Best Card went 400 yards in :19.770, and his winning margin was a nose from second-fastest qualifier Little Talks. The colt, who was bred in California by Dutch Masters III, has won three of eight starts and has banked $237,395.

Docs Best Card was coming off of a ninth-place finish in the October 3 PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity (G2).

“I knew he would run a better race tonight than in the Breeders’ Futurity final,” said Gomez. “I know my horse, and I knew he didn’t run his race. He got dirt kicked in his face and he stopped running.

“I knew he would bounce back,” he added. “This race will help him a lot. He needed this race after his troubled effort in the Breeders’ Futurity. We’ll freshen him up and take it easy with him for the next couple of weeks to get him ready for the Golden State Million final.”

Third-fastest qualifier Jess A Pollitician won the sixth heat by a half of a length from tenth-fastest qualifier Walk Thru Crystal, a two-time graded stakes winner who was losing for the first time in six starts. A homebred Apollitical Jess gelding, Jess A Pollitician is trained by Jose Flores for owner Janet McKinnerney.

“He was one of our best 2-year-olds coming into this season, but he got sick so we had to stop and give him a break,” said Flores of Jess A Pollitician. “Janet was so patient with him, and she just wanted us to do the right thing for the horse. She gave us the time to take care of him, get him healthy and back to training slowly. Thanks to her patience, he finally showed us the talent that we always knew he had.”

The winner of the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) in June, Walk Thru Crystal is still in line to earn the Los Alamitos Cash Bonanza, which pays a $1-million bonus to the connections of a horse who can sweep the Ed Burke, Golden State Million, and Los Alamitos Two-Million (G1) futurities.

The complete list of qualifiers -- Docs Best Card, Little Talks, Jess A Pollitician, Mi Viejo, Thermonuclear Energy, Gotcha Bella, Fire At Will, Favorite Kiss, El Karma, and Walk Thru Crystal.
