Apollitical Blood Tops Texas Classic Derby Qualifiers

The Grade 1 winner scored a 3 3/4-length win in the third of five trials Friday at Lone Star Park

Rancho el Cabresto Inc.'s Apollitical Blood is the fastest qualifier to the November 14, $400,000-est. Texas Classic Derby (G1) at Lone Star Park.

Racing on a sloppy and sealed track in the third of five trials on Friday, Apollitical Blood defeated non-qualifier Yurman by 3 3/4 length in :21.262 for 440 yards. Eduardo Nicasio rode the son of Apollitical Jess for trainer Juan Aleman.

Apollitical Blood was bred in California by Bruce and Jill Thompson. An earner of $1,507,330 from 13 outs, the colt was coming off of a 1 3/4-length victory in the September 6, 440-yard All American Derby (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

Second-fastest qualifier Bodacious Eagle was a prompt 4-5 favorite in the second heat. Prepped by Trey Wood and ridden by Ricky Ramirez for owner Johnny Trotter of Hereford, Texas, the sorrel son of One Famous Eagle covered his quarter-mile trip in :21.371 while defeating fifth-fastest qualifier RC Me Leaving You by 1 3/4 lengths.

Bodacious Eagle was bred in Oklahoma by La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC. The gelding has won six of 14 outs, including the Grade 3, 440-yard Dash For Cash Derby at Lone Star on October 10, and he has banked $439,908.

Damian Martinez rode third-fastest qualifier Poker Chip 831 to a wire-to-wire, two-length win in the fifth trial. Trained by Esteban Rubio for owners Monte and Katsy Cluck, the gelded son of Fantastic Corona Jr went 440 yards in :21.529 while earning his third victory in five starts.
