Princess Jesse, a homebred Jesse James Jr filly racing for Vance Mikkelson of Belen, New Mexico, sprinted to her first stakes victory in Sunday's $85,000 Sunburst Stakes (RG3) for state-bred sophomore fillies at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Alejandro Medellin for trainer Eric Mikkelson and sent to post as the 5-2 second choice, Princess Jesse went 350 yards in :17.462, and her margin of victory was a neck from 2-1 favorite Teana Fay. The Sunburst finish was the reverse of that of the February 28, $85,000 New Mexico Horse Breeders' Association Stakes (RG3), which saw Teana Fay defeat Princess Jesse by a head at the longer 400-yard distance.

Princess Jesse's dam, Total Miracle, is a 15-year-old winning and multiple graded stakes placed daughter of champion Dean Miracle. Campaigned exclusively in New Mexico, Princess Jesse has won three of her seven outs, and the $51,000 winner's share of the Sunburst Stakes purse boosted her earnings to $115,860.

Princess Jesse's resume includes a fourth-place finish, 1 3/4 lengths behind winner RG Miracle, in last year's $102,000 New Mexico Breeders' Futurity (RG3) at SunRay Park.

Msferrari Edition, JJ Jessies Girl, Serena James, Carson City Girl, RF Jessies Girl, Shes A Blazin Winner, and Ms Blu Moon completed the order of finish.
