Once Over is Fastest West Texas Maturity Qualifier

The 7-year-old Walk Thru Fire gelding won the first of three trials at Sunland Park on Friday.

Jaime Bujanda's Once Over, a 7-year-old gelded son of Walk Thru Fire, is the fastest qualifier to the April 24, $81,700 West Texas Maturity (G2) at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Hector Aldrete for trainer Isidro Rodriguez in the first of three 400-yard trials on Friday, Once Over defeated third-fastest qualifier Testing The Ice in by 1 3/4 lengths in :19.255. The graded stakes winning gelding was winning for the sixth time in 25 races and pushing his earnings to $171,384.

Once Over was bred in California by Ed Allred. Friday's trial marked the gelding's first-ever start at Sunland Park.

JM Miracle, the winner of the 2014 All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs, is the second-fastest qualifier. Ridden by Sergio Becerra Jr. for owner J & M Racing and Farm of Monahans, Texas, and trainer Albert Franco, JM Miracle won the third heat by a neck in :19.489.
