Coronas First Diva, a graded stakes winning Corona Cartel filly racing for Sara Leann Morgan, led all All American Futurity (G1) qualifiers on Saturday, the second day of trials for the 440-yard, $3-million stakes at Ruidoso Downs.

Prepped by Charles "Duke" Shults, Coronas First Diva won the 14th of 15 trials by 1 1/4 lengths in :21.500 under jockey James Flores. The filly earned her third win in five outs.

Coronas First Diva was bred in Oklahoma by the Lepic-Mixer Partnership, and she is out of Spit Curl Diva, the sport's champion aged mare in 2010 and '11. She has earned $240,773 from five starts, and she broke her maiden with a three-quarter length victory in the 300-yard, $420,000 Oklahoma Futurity (G3) at Remington Park on March 26.

Coronas First Diva was coming off of a fifth-place finish in the June 4 Heritage Place Futurity (G1), but she broke a lot better on Saturday.

"She always breaks like this, except in the Heritage Place Futurity," said Shults, who added that Coronas First Diva has been in Ruidoso since mid-June.

"We pointed her to the All American Futurity (trials)," Shults said. "We wanted her to be ready and fresh."

Coronas First Diva is the overall second-fastest qualifier. On Friday, Charles E. Robinson's Imperial Eagle won the last of 15 trials by 1 3/4 lengths in :21.499.

Other prominent qualifiers from Saturday's trials include Nueve Racing's Apolltical Chad, a gelded son of Apollitical Jess trained by Wes Giles and the winner of the June 12 Ruidoso Futurity (G1).

Quarter Horse racing's richest and most prestigious race, the All American Futurity will be run on Labor Day, September 5.
