May Be Fantastic SA, a colt by Fanastic Corona Jr and the fastest qualifier, was a prompt odds-on favorite in the $40,802 AQRA Turf Paradise Open Derby on Sunday.
Racing for Orlando Guerrero, May Be Fantastic SA went 400 yards in :19.710 while defeating 26-1 longshot Fighter Gone Wild by 1 1/2 lengths and earning a 99 speed index. Martin Osuna rode the Oklahoma-bred colt for trainer Ubaldo Guerrero.
May Be Fantastic SA was bred by Gianni Franco Samaja, and he was coming off of a clear 3 1/2-length victory over Fighter Gone Wild in the first of two trials on November 19. A $5,200 buy at the 2014 Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City, the colt has won four of 10 starts, and the $20,401 winner's share of the purse from his first stakes victory pushed his bankroll to $37,431, of which $32,845 has been pocketed this year.
Heza A Royal Jess, La China Maluca, The Manly Art, This Doll Ca Run, Stella Corona, Rockn Cowboy, Mr Jb Perry, and Likes A Dare completed the order of finish.
