Rain and cooler weather, more typical of February, returned to Remington Park for its February 24 training races.
Capi Mi recorded the fastest 250-yard time during the quick session of seven events. A 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding, Capi Mi is owned by the Racin RNs of Wapunucka, Okla. and trained by Luis Villafranco. The son of Capo De Capi from the Real Visions mare A Rosie Visions, handled the fifth training race of the afternoon in :13.53 seconds over the slop, winning by one length, under jockey Mario Delgado.
The Tuesday training races were contested with the aid of a tailwind that ranged between 16-20 mph. Capi Mi had a 16-mph tailwind in his heat. Light but steady rain fell throughout the training race card with temperatures in the low 40s.
The Remington Park training races are used by horsemen to prepare young horses who haven't started in a parimutuel race. Tuesday's training races brings the total number for the pre-season at Remington Park to 42. Training races are expected to resume their normal schedule next week on March 2 and, if necessary, March 3.
The Remington Park American Quarter Horse Season begins March 11 and runs through June 4.
