Teana Fay, a sorrel daughter of Winners Version racing for Jimmy Negrete and Jimmy Vasquez, earned her first stakes win in the $85,000 New Mexico Horse Breeders' Association Stakes (RG2) for state-bred sophomores at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Salvador Martinez for trainer Juan M. Gonzalez, Teana Fay went 400 yards in :19.731 and defeated Princess Jesse by a head. Sic Em Sixes, the 5-2 second choice in the full field of 10, finished third, a head in front of graded stakes winner and 3-2 favorite Carson City Girl.

Teana Fay was bred by Bauer Farm LLC. A $25,000 buy at the 2014 New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs, the filly has won two of 11 outs, and the $51,000 winner's share of the purse from her NMHBA Stakes win bumped her bankroll to $112,817, all of which has been earned in New Mexico.

Teana Fay's resume includes a second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Rapid James, in last year's 300-yard, $45,360 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes (R) for state-breds at Sunland. She also was a finalist in two graded futurities last year, including the 400-yard, New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park.

Frank N Jesse, DM Nate Dog, Sierra Royal Bunny, My Mojito, Sensual Queen, and DM Little B completed the order of finish.
