Bella Vista Farms' BV Midnite Express made his 2016 debut with a convincing 1 1/4-length victory in the inaugural running of the $250,000 Sunland Juvenile Championship at Sunland Park on Sunday.

Prepped by Eddie Lee Willis, BV Midnite Express covered 400 yards in :19.608 under jockey Russel Hadley, who has ridden the homebred 3-year-old Freighttrain B gelding in all eight of his starts. The $100,000 winner's share of the purse boosted BV Midnite Express' earnings to $759,252.

BV Midnite Express' sire, Freighttrain B, was the second-leading freshman sire in 2015, behind only Good Reason SA, the sire of All American Futurity (G1) winner Jess Good Candy. The gelding's dam, Ms Tres Seis, is a winning 12-year-old daughter of 2001 champion 2-year-old colt Tres Seis.

All told, BV Midnite Express has won five of eight starts, and his three career stakes scores include a half-length victory in the May 20, $1.17-million Heritage Place Futurity (G1) at Remington Park, and a three-quarter length win in the September 7, $200,000 All American Juvenile Invitational Stakes at Ruidoso Downs.

Burns Folly, Queen Arabella, Streakinjess For Lmg, Memphis D Nasty, SC Volcom, Game Changes, Good Job Honey, Apollitical OK, Sweet Splenda and Pampered Jess completed the order of finish.
