Fastest qualifier Pyc Jess Bite Mydust was a prompt 6-5 favorite in the $165,600 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity at Canterbury Park on Sunday.

Prepped by Jason Olmstead for owner Lunderborg LLC, Pyc Jess Bite Mydust covered 350 yards in :17.792 and earned a 97 speed index on a track officially labeled "good." Brayan Velazquez rode the homebred son of Apollitical Jess and the stakes-winning Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Paint Or More.

Pyc Jess Bite Mydust scored his first career stakes victory despite veering out slightly at the start.

"He corrected himself and got the job done," said Velazquez. "I knew we had a nose on them (at the wire)."

Pyc Jess Bite Mydust broke his maiden with a one-length win in the fifth of six trials on June 18. All told, the Minnesota-bred gelding has won two of three outs and has banked $90,341.

Olmstead won this race last year with Eagles Span.

"It's always nice to have fast horses in the barn," the trainer said.

Cr Game Changer finished second, a head behind Pyc Jess Bite Mydust, and was followed by Aregal Rainbow, Two Timin Suzy, Chick In Eagle, Heza Prospect, Lithe, Royal Dashof Diamond, and First Flyin Eagle. Tenth-fastest qualifier Kt Perry was scratched.
