Marfilous, a gray filly by Ivory James owned and trained by Martin Trejo, won the first of six Firecracker Futurity (G2) trials at Delta Downs on Saturday and is the fastest qualifier to this year's July 2, $271,950 final.
Ridden by David Alvarez and making her first start in 2 1/2 months, Marfilous went 350 yards on a muddy and sealed track in :17.689, and her winning margin was three-quarters of a length from sixth-fastest qualifier Leaveafamousmemory
Marfilous was bred in Texas by Bobby D. Cox. The filly has won two of three starts and has banked $16,708, with the only blemish on her record being a seventh-place finish in the March 23, 300-yard Harrah's Entertainment Futurity (G3) at Delta Downs.
Trejo acquired Marfilous for $9,500 at last year's Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale.
The winner's share of this year's Firecracker Futurity will be $135,975. Click here for a complete list of qualifiers.
