Katharsis Tops TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity Qualifiers

The filly breaks her maiden in the second of seven trials at Retama Park.

Seven 350-yard TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity trials were contested Friday at Retama Park.

Emmanuel Villarreal's Katharsis, a daughter of American Runaway trained by Elpidio Luna Jr., is the fastest qualifier to the July 2, $30,000-added TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity (RG3) at Retama Park.

Ridden by Francisco Calderon, Katharsis won the second of seven 350-yard trials by 1 1/2 lengths in :17.924 on Friday. The filly was winning for the first time in three outs.

Katharsis was bred in Texas by Bobby D. Cox. The filly's dam, the First Down Dash mare All About Ease, won the 2004 Ruidoso Futurity (G1).
