Heisasgoodasheis earned his first stakes victory in Saturday's 300-yard, $191,400 Gordon Mobley Futurity (R) at Indiana Grand.
Ridden by Rolando Pina for owner and trainer Joe M. Davis of Borden, Indiana, Heisasgoodasheis defeated Kid Cartel by a short nose in :15.730. The $105,270 winner's share of the purse pushed his bankroll to $111,220 from three outs.
"I was shocked; I didn't think I'd won it," said Pina. "But once I started sending him, he really took off."
Heisasgoodasheis' sire, Chilled Corona, is a winning 12-year-old son of multiple Grade 1-winner Feature Mr Jess and champion Corona Cash. The gelding's dam, Sheisassheis, is an 11-year-old winning daughter of champion Okey Dokey Dale.
Davis, who is relatively new to Quarter Horse racing, owns a heating and cooling business and operates a training center near Borden.
"We've been second in five or six stakes over last year and this year," Davis said. "This is the first stakes win for both of us, and it sure is a great feeling.
"The biggest thing on this win is that if it wasn't for the grooms and Rolando and everyone else involved, we wouldn't be having this success," he added. "Everybody pitches in."
Jess Jace, Powerfull Stone, HH Kentucky Krome, First Cucuy, Beach Zoomer, Jazz C Gal, WH Whole Lottashaken, and I Am The First completed the order of finish.
