Adrian Ramos rode Too Flash For You to a wire-to-wire victory in Friday's $85,000 Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap (RG2) for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park.
Prepped by Jason Giles for owners Jose Espinosa and Jim and Michele Laird, Too Flash For You went 350 yards in :17.298, and his winning margin was a neck from Get Down Bambi. The $51,000 winner's share of the purse from his fourth stakes score bumped his bankroll to $1,059,870.
Too Flash For You was making his first start since November 1, when the now 5-year-old gelding ran seventh in the 440-yard Namehimastreaker New Mexico Cup Championship (RG1) at Zia Park. A $20,000 buy at the 2012 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, he was bred by Sarah E. Donaldson of Deming, New Mexico, owner and operator of Born Running Ranch near her hometown.
Too Flash For You has won eight of 21 outs. During his 3-year-old campaign, the gelding assembled a five-race win streak that included a half-length victory in the 440-yard, $1,920,887 All American Derby (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.
BL Corona finished third, a half of a length behind Too Flash For You, and was followed by DM Ada Kat, Whatever Bill, Blazin Version, Heza Wild Dragon, Bankie Bay, Dungarees Version, and Mad About The Moon.
The 7-5 favorite in the full field of 10, Mad About The Moon lost all chance when he stumbled badly at the start.
