Famous Dash To Me stepped up in the third of 13 training races at Ruidoso Downs on Tuesday with the quickest time of :15.851 for 300 yards.
Wind was much less of a factor on Tuesday after stronger winds during Monday’s training races. The headwind for 12 of the 13 races was below 12 miles per hour, and most of the races had a headwind in the eight to 10 miles-per-hour range.
Owned by Tommy Lipar’s Paragon Farms LLC, Famous Dash To Me scored an easy win and was pulling away in the final strides under a strong hold from jockey Ricky Ramirez. Blane Wood trains the daughter of One Famous Eagle and the Dash For Cash mare Dash Back To Me. She was a $45,000 yearling purchase in the Texas Quarter Horse Sale.
“We’ll see how she pulls up and do what’s best for her,” said Wood. “She could go in the Ruidoso Futurity trials or we could wait. These (owners) are new people in the business and they want to be in the business for a long time.”
Paul Jones and Thompson Racing’s Rieda Moreno pulled away under Sal Martinez in the first training race and came up with the day’s second-fastest time of :15.944. The Tac It Like A Man filly is also trained by Jones.
The third and final day of training races is on Wednesday morning starting at 8:30 a.m.
The Ruidoso Downs’ summer season starts on May 27 with the first of two days of trials to the Grade 1, $1 million Ruidoso Futurity. Many of the two-year-olds in the training races will compete in the Ruidoso Futurity trials. Many of the New Mexico-breds in the training races will debut in the Mountain Top Futurity trials on June 3.
