Jess Ravin, a sophomore daughter of Corona Cartel campaigned by Enrique Gonzalez's EG High Desert Farms, earned her third stakes win of the year in Saturday's Grade 3 $25,000 Las Damas Stakes at Los Alamitos.
Ridden by Jesus Rios Ayala, Jess Ravin went 400 yards in :19.703, and her winning margin was three-quarters of a length from BF Fooserageous. The filly was coming off a sixth-place finish in a Los Alamitos Super Derby (G1) trial on October 15.
“At least my filly came back well because last time in the (Super Derby) trials we didn’t have any luck,” said trainer Yanet Rodriguez. “We were in the one hole and she sort of flipped in the gate so it wasn’t a good start. I was hoping it wouldn’t affect here and fortunately it didn’t. She came back great."
Jess Ravin was bred in Oklahoma by You and Me Partners. A $68,000 buy at the 2014 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, she has won six of 11 starts, and the $13,750 winner's share of the Las Damas purse pushed her earnings to $110,191, of which $106,561 has been banked this season.
Rodriguez said that Jess Ravin would be pointed to the January 22 Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1) trials.
"We’ll play it by ear and maybe try to get her a race before the trials," the trainer added.
Time For Wine, Apolitical Zoom, Summer Dynasty, Mrs Pickens, First N Final, Favorite Bet, Jess Cuz, and Lonely In Front Br completed the order of finish.
Los Alamitos Racecourse reported that next year's Las Damas purse will be increased to $35,000 and will be contested on November 25.
