Fifth-fastest qualifier Moneys A Maker parlayed a sharp break from his rail post into a neck victory in Saturday's $362,987 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) for state-bred juveniles at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Mauro Salcedo and aided by a reported 15-mph tail wind, Moneys A Maker went 300 yards in :15.202 while scoring his second win in three starts and first stakes victory. Cynthia Gonzalez saddled the gray son of Sixes Royal for owner Enrique Barrera, who bought Moneys A Maker for $4,000 at last year's New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs.

Moneys A Maker broke his maiden with a nose victory in his New Mexican Spring Futurity trial on March 17. The lone finalist with more than one race entering the final, he was bred by Dee Mooring and Jaime Cervantes, and he is out of Money Smart Gal, an 11-year-old winning daughter of the First Down Dash stallion First Smart Money.

Moneys A Maker's second dam, the Takin On The Cash mare Lynns Allante, won two stakes from 1999-2000, including the 2000 AQHA New Mexico Distaff Challenge at Ruidoso Downs.

The $170,604 winner's share of the Spring Futurity purse bumped Moneys A Maker's bankroll to $180,542.

Cadilac Flash ran second and was followed by Tempting Star Gazer, fastest qualifier and 1-2 favorite Flash Moonfire, Two Wines, Jans Cartel, Miles Of Flash, Bigg Daddy, Flashin Angel, and Wood Be Kuhi.
