Rayne Knight's The Cazador made his debut with a convincing 1 1/4-length victory in the eighth of 12 Louisiana Breeders' Laddie Futurity (RG2) trials at Delta Downs on Saturday.

Ridden by John Hamilton for trainer Michael Zinglemann, The Cazador covered 330 yards in :16.704 to set the fastest qualifying time to the $266,140 final for state-bred colts and geldings on May 20. The Sir Runaway Dash colt was bred by Zinglemann and Curtis Crenwelge, and he is out of the winning 10-year-old Toast To Dash mare Told Ya.

Second-fastest qualifier JLS Dash N Fire won the sixth heat by three-quarters of a length in :16.788 for owner TM Ranch, which acquired the Heza Fast Dash colt from breeder JLS Speed Horse Ranch for $80,000 at last year's LQHBA Yearling Sale. David Alvarez rode JLS Dash N Fire for trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr., who qualified two to the race.
