Ferrari James Wins Keokuk Stakes

The 4-year-old Ivory James gelding keeps his perfect record at Prairie Meadows intact.

Ferrari James won the Grade 3, 400-yard Keokuk Stakes, as Prairie Meadows opened its 2017 American Quarter Horse meet on Saturday.

 

Ferrari James maintained his perfect record at Prairie Meadows on Saturday, as the 4-year-old Ivory James gelding sprinted to a half-length victory in the $46,800 Keokuk Stakes (G3).

Ridden by Oscar Delgado, Ferrari James went 400 yards in :19.805. Kirt Clark prepped Ferrari James for owner Alfredo Botello.

Ferrari James has won nine of 17 starts, including all five of his outs at Prairie Meadows. The gelding was bred in Oklahoma by Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith, and he has won three stakes, including last year's 400-yard, $84,000 Iowa Double Gold Derby (R) and 400-yard, $108,000 Altoona Derby.

The $24,750 winner's share of the Keokuk Stakes purse pushed Ferrari James' bankroll to $182,582.

Divas Candy Girl finished second and was followed by odds-on favorite The Fiscal Cliff, Bye Bye Birdy, Bye Byefreighttrain, Blacks Cartel, Sicario, Vf Eyebaman, Watch My Wallet Loto, Im Beau Brown, and Southern Lulu.
