Robert D. Smith's Play Misty Foreme sprinted to a wire-to-wire victory in Saturday's $85,000 Jess Burner Memorial Handicap (RG1) at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Jose Luis Enriquez, Play Misty Foreme went 400 yards in :19.067 while defeating Major Bites by a half of a length and posting a 102 speed index. Jose Luis Muela prepped the 4-year-old Jesse James Jr gelding, who banked the $51,000 winner's share of the purse from his second stakes win.

Play Misty Foreme was bred by Mac and Janis Murray's MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico. The gelding has won seven of 20 starts, including last year's Zia Derby (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs, and he has earned $283,266, of which $154,988 has been banked from eight outs this season.

Yudes Jess Dashin finished third, 1 3/4 lengths behind Play Misty Foreme. Big Spurs, Seeyalateralligator, Cinco Menudos, Mitey Man, Carson City Girl, Magnifico Dragon and Running Dragon completed the order of finish.

The 5-2 favorite in the full field of 10, Running Dragon hopped at the start and was never in contention.
