You Drive I Fly, a homebred son of Jet Black Patriot owned by Richard and Janelle Simon, earned his first stakes victory in Saturday's 400-yard Louisiana Million Futurity (RG1) for state-bred 2-year-olds at Evangeline Downs.

Ridden by Donald Watson for trainer Kenny Roberts, You Drive I Fly defeated fastest qualifier Shesa Diamond Diva by one length in :19.663. The $445,000 winner's share of the $1-million purse, Louisiana's richest for any breed, pushed the colt's earnings to $590,134.

You Drive I Fly was coming off of a dominating 1 3/4-length victory in one of 15 trials on November 17. Covering the 400 yards in :19.805, he posted the third-fastest qualifying time.

"He was pretty sharp in his trial," said Watson of You Drive I Fly. "Kenny and his crew had him running good. I knew the others would have to run the races of their lives to beat him in the final."

You Drive I Fly is out of Shakemupperry, an unraced 10-year-old daughter of Mr Jess Perry. The colt traces back to his fourth dam, Shake It To Em. A winning daughter of two-time world champion Dash For Cash, Shake It To Em was a three-time futurity finalist at Los Alamitos in 1980.

Raced exclusively in Louisiana, You Drive I Fly has won four of five starts, and his resume includes a second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Dashnunder Afullmoon, in the 350-yard, $705,000 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) at Delta Downs on July 8.

JRS Taylors Runnaway, Ima Gone Reba, Featuring Fast Jess, Eye Am Sizzlin, Diamondinthefront, RF Shez Leaving You, Stormy T, and FPJ Blazen Fast Ryon completed the order of finish.
