Runaway Dash Gelding Tops Mardi Gras Futurity Qualifiers

Fourteen 300-yard Mardi Gras Futurity trials were contested Saturday at Louisiana Downs.

Sir Edward L Perry, a son of Runaway Dash trained by Juan Saucedo for owner Filemon Saucedo, is the fastest qualifier to the March 18, $271,738 Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) for state-bred juveniles at Louisiana Downs.

Ridden by Luis Vivanco, Sir Edward L Perry on Saturday won the 10th of 14 300-yard trials in :15.595. The gelding was bred by the late Laverne Perry.

Second-fastest qualifier Shesa Diamond Diva won the fifth heat in :15.607. Eddie Sanchez rode the Struttin To Beduino filly for owner Cruz E. Nava and trainer Jose Sanchez.

Shesa Diamond Diva was a $9,000 buy at last year's LQHBA Yearling Sale.
