One Sweet Runner Tops Governor's Cup Derby Qualifiers

The homebred filly posted the fastest qualifying time on Sunday.

J. Francisco Diaz's One Sweet Runner, a homebred daughter of the Mr Jess Perry stallion One Sweet Jess, is the fastest qualifier to the July 29 Governor's Cup Derby (RG2) at Los Alamitos.

Racing in the second of three 400-yard trials on Sunday, One Sweet Runner defeated AJS Anna Smoke by a half of a length in :19.839. Jesus Rios Ayala rode the filly for trainer Lindolfo Diaz.

Kolleen Ledgerwood's Renewed, a sorrel son of Walk Thru Fire trained by Roberto Dominguez, won the first heat by a half of a length in :19.876. Jose Nicasio rode the colt, who was bred by Ed Allred and was a finalist in last year's 400-yard Golden State Million Futurity (G1).
